We have been mountain biking in Portugal's Algarve since 1997. Every day our qualified guides take you to explore the best of what's on offer in the area  from our west coast adventure xc to a day's downhill - the potential of the area is being used by Ride Portugal to its fullest.

For our holiday packages extreme sports insurance is essential - you should never go riding uninsured. Bring your mountain bike, kit and body armour. We always wear helmets and neck braces for downhill - if you don't own one we can hire leatt brace for a minimum extra charge. The weather in the Algarve and Portugal in general is very hot for the most part of the year so if you own a camel back type bag it's a good idea to bring it.

Pack your bike well!

Our downhill trails are long, technical and dry so your bike will take a lot of abuse. Spares to keep you riding are always a bonus if you have them. The granite rock of the Monchique hills will wear your tyres down fast if you're riding every day so a variation of tyres and spares are beneficial. We keep a good selection of Maxxis tyres in stock to keep us on the trails should you need them.

Lagos, our nearest large town, is full of restaurants and bars attracting people of all ages and origins. It's a great night out and a chance to experience some local food and hospitality so bring some beer money!

For 2012 booked downhill and all-mountain biking holidays we can provide new, quality mountain bikes for hire should you need them.

If you wish to hire mountain bikes and are not staying with us we hire bikes with maps, locks, helmets, spares and tools to keep you going as you explore. Cycle hire starts from just €10 per day and are delivered to and collected from you. All mountain bikes for the 2012 Portugal downhill season will be new and in perfect mechanical order.

Should you wish to explore further, our guided tours get you out into the countryside and mountains to experience the best of area.

The Ride Portugal bike house is our centre of operations: a private villa with pool, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, BBQ area as well as private wash and laundry room. It's a great place to chill, watch some film, grab a drink and take a swim!

We are based near Lagos, one of the most vibrant and diverse holiday locations in Portugal. Full of bars and restaurants, Lagos attracts  people of all ages and origins. Bring some spending money for a great experience during your stay.

Long weekend breaks are a great value introduction to mountain bike riding in Portugal. Fly in to the Algarve's airport at Faro first thing in a Friday and be on the all-mountain trails in an hour. You will have 2½ days uplifts, airport transfers and accommodation for two nights all for the cost of €265. Flights into Faro can be purchased for as little as €20 if you book ahead, so if you fancy a bargain quick break get planning and contact us.
